This video demonstrates how to create a Halloween mask using Bezier curves and Bezier circles in Blender 2.49b.

Modeling with curves is a powerful Blender features. Few objects in life are pure straight lines. Life continues to throw curves at us. As an example, we're going to make a Halloween mask with Bezier curves.

Blender itself uses Bezier curves extensively. The curves in the IPO window, as an example, are Bezier curves. So if you're going to be animating your scene, you can do a lot more if you understand how to manipulate Bezier curves. There are also some great modeling tools, such as loft modeling and beveling, which rely on Bezier curves. Knowing how to deal with Bezier curves is a fundamental Blender skill.

I have 2.49a and can do almost nothing written in this tutorial. I cant add vertices, cant change curve into mesh, cant even extrude it... I knew that 2.49a is worse than 2.49b, but I never thought it is SO MUCh useless...
Everything will go wrong, anyway - then, why to be pesimist as well?

Hmmm, I have a troubles to run video today, so it's possible I have missed any important inmormations... I can extrude curves only with edit buttons down (extrude and withdraw, these ones) , the usual extrude tools (curve - extrude) doesn't work like it works for Meshes... :( Alt+C does work, it was my misunderstanding - I didnt realize I can only change into Mesh the object made from curve, not the curve itself...

That's correct. Basically, you model with curves and if you need mesh functions, select it and press Alt-C.

Sketchup doesn 't do curves at all. Everything is meshes. What Sketchup calls a circle or a polygon is just a subsurfed mesh. Bezier curves, on the other hand, are true curves, much better for organic shapes.

Sketchup has a huge plugin library that helps to compensate for some of its lacking functionality, for example there is a Bezier Curve plugin. For anyone interested I recommend http://smustard.com/ as a good starting place when looking for SU plugins, not all of them are free, but plenty of good ones are.
