What's even better is that you can change the hotkeys to suit your style. For example, if you are coming from 3DS or Maya and you want to change Blender's hotkeys to yours, you can do that. There's a link to a tutorial on how to change hotkeys in 2.5 from the page you linked to.

can someone please tell me how can i set keys for vertex/edge/face selection modes while i m in edit mode.
control + tab is little tedious for me...

But be careful, tutorial and other explanations will probably use the 'standard' short-cuts.

If a change is useful to you, maybe you use 'two' versions of Blender 2.5 (or you have a good memory ;) for the 'standard').
